What is it?
It is a lotion, which in Korean skincare is like an emulsion. You are meant to use it before your cream step, as it is slightly thicker than an essence and serum. This particular lotion is geared towards those with combination to oily skin as it balances oil production. It is suitable for sensitive skin types as well as it is free of artificial fragrance, volatile alcohol, PEGS and other harmful ingredients. It is mildly acidic, but has been dermatologically tested to be non-irritating.
Notable ingredients
This lotion contains no less than 50% of green tea leaf water from Boseong! Green tea is a great ingredients for oily skin types as it reduces sebum production but is still hydrating. It also has a soothing effect, so it's meant to be good for troubled skin as well.
It also contains tocopheral, a vitamin E that helps protect the skin and is also an anti-oxidant, botanical oils and centella asiatica extract.
Packaging
A stury brown bottle with a plastic cap. You are meant to just shake or push the product out. When you remove the twist cap there is a plastic cover with a hole in it where the product comes out of. I am not a fan of this design as the bottle is too hard to push, so it's really difficult to get the product out like that, so you can only really hold it upside down and shake it. This means you have no control over how much product comes out. The bottle itself is nice and sturdy plastic, but it really requires a pump to get the product out, the hole is just inconvenient. I imagine when the bottle is nearly empty, it'll be hard to get the last of the lotion out.
Performance
I used this lotion as instructed, before my cream step. It feels very fresh and soothing and it's very light-weight. In the midst of summer this may be enough to finish off your routine, or if your skin is super oily and doesn't need a cream. As it is the middle of winter and I have dry skin, this was definitely not hydrating enough to skip my cream step, but it's a nice boost of hydration.
Unfortunately I think this lotion broke me out. Although I very much like the mild scent and the soothing refreshing feeling of it, it also caused a slightly tingling sensation that resulted in a minor break-out on my chin and cheek area. I am notoriously prone to break-outs however, so this happens to me quite often.
Apart from this reaction I actually quite like this lotion. If you have oilier and/or sensitive skin I would definitely still recommend you try this lotion out, it really does calm down sebum production. I would put it more in a spring-summer routine though, as it'll be most beneficial then.
