Title Mild acid toner

Benton’s PHA line has recently grown up and I’m happy it’s getting bigger. The newest addition to the Benton’s PHA line is PHA Peeling Toner. It’s a very gentle, exfoliating and moisturizing water-type toner that is perfect even for sensitive skin types. The main star in this product is lactobionic acid (3,0%) –a 3rd generation polihydroxy acid. It’s more gentle than AHA and what’s more important it doesn’t cause photosensitivity, so it’s suitable to use during the summer. It acts similar to AHAs, so it melts dead skin cells, manages sebum production, take care of whiteheads and blackheads, while it’s not as irritating as AHAs tend to be. Despite the toner having pH 3-4 it feels gentle on the skin, but please mind that my skin isn’t particularly sensitive. There are also other amazing ingredients in the toner except lactobionic acid, such as:

- centaurea cyanus flower water and chrysanthemum Morifolium Flower Extract that are rich in vitamin A, B1 and adenine. They are known as natural moisturizing water and soothing water and shows antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties, which every person with sensitive and/or acne prone skin will welcome with open arms. The extracts seems to be also beneficial for people with tendency to blushing as they are suppressing the penetrability of capillary vessels;

- sodium PCA – it’s a Natural Moisturizing Factor that naturally occurs in skin barrier and it show amazing moisturizing properties. It’s definitely an ingredient worth checking out!

- Sodium hyaluronate – also NMF, great at moisturizing.

I don’t use strong acids as my skin doesn’t like them too much (at least yet), but the PHA Peeling Toner feels very gentle on my skin, more gentle than the gentle products I’ve been using. It doesn’t irritate it at all and I like to use it on days when I don’t want to use my other, stronger acid toners to give my skin a little bit of rest. I find it more moisturizing than exfoliating, but at the same time I haven’t used it for a longer period of time (I mean once or twice a day) and I don’t recommend it. Benton recommends to use it 2-3 times a week and I think it’s enough – there’s no need to use it more often to see the results. Even the brand says that more frequent usage of the toner may burden the skin, which isn’t something any of us would want, isn’t it? I stopped using cleansing waters in the morning recently, so the PHA Peeling Toner is first stop in my routine these days and it works really well this way. It leaves my skin glowy and slightly hydrated, but of course it can’t be used as a moisturizer. What I like about it is that it doesn’t cause visible skin peeling, like some stronger products do. Sadly I can’t say or show how much it improved my skin, because it’s a mess these days. I finished three products I really liked a few weeks ago and since that time my skin freaks out, but it’s a story for another time. The PHA Peeling Toner is a product that won’t help much with acne (at least it was like this for me), so I would recommend it for everyone that needs gentle exfoliation or for people who wants a mild, gentle product for summer, without worrying about photosensitivity and irritation or for people who wants to take a break from stronger products or are at the beginning of their journey to the world of acids. The toner does what it claims, it’s comfortable to use and I’m a fan of its watery texture – it has the same consistency as water and doesn’t leave skin sticky or tacky. The only disadvantage is the pump – it doesn’t work smoothly. It splashes product everywhere. In one hand it isn’t a big issue, but in the other it’s something that takes away joy of using the product for me and I don’t reach for it as often as I would if the pump would work better.

Thank you so much Benton for sending the product for review purpose. It’s another nice product my skin likes and I enjoy using!
