Sensitive, combination, acne-prone, dehydrated.
a sturdy transparent plastic dropper bottle, the Benton Cacao Moist and Mild Serum feels lightweight and fits nicely in the palm of my hand.
Appearance-wise, it is designed nicely to give off a gentle, soothing feel with
the pale pink outer box and pink product label.
At a nice
low pH of ~5-6, the serum has a clear, viscous consistency when dispensed. As
it is non-drippy, I expected it to spread into a dense, potentially sticky consistency;
but surprisingly, the serum turns watery once spread on the skin. However, it
remains still and does not drip into a watery mess as most serums would. I also
find it really nice how the serum absorbs fast into the skin once patted in and
does not leave any tacky/sticky residue. Also, a noticeable plus for those
sensitive to fragrance: I did not detect a scent to this at all! Cue applause
and heart eyes!
In terms of
application, I usually dispense about 3-4 drops of the product directly to my
forehead and cheeks before spreading and smoothing it onto my whole face. I
usually use the serum after toner and before moisturizer, but on its own, I
find that it still does hydrate the skin decently as shown in the table below.
this serum for about two weeks, and overall, I really do enjoy having it in my
routine. In the first few uses, I did freak out a bit when I noticed how my
skin would flush right after application. But I was patient and continued to
use it to see if it would benefit my dehydrated skin in the long term, and boy
am I glad I did! After about a week or so, I began to notice my skin looking
brighter and more even-toned, and it also felt more hydrated. As I did not introduce
any other product, I could tell that it was definitely the serum’s doing.
All in all,
I’d definitely recommend giving this serum a chance – even if you have
sensitive skin like me. With its nice ingredients list consisting of hydrating
and skin soothing plant extracts including the high content of cacao extract which provide strong moisture and nutritive benefits (minus potentially irritating essential
oils!), low pH, and lightweight consistency, I can imagine that it should work
well for all skin types in all four seasons.*
